Experiencing a burst of energy I decided to satisfy my inner Indiana Jones for this weeks Travel 52 Challenge Postcard. Having remembered visiting an Aztec themed sim years ago I delved into search. With the backpack suitably packed and Yancuic Aztlan – Aztec Island the top entry, it was time for a jungle adventure.
“Explore the mysterious island of Aztlan, hike and watch Mexican wildlife, dive in the lagoon. Treasure hunt: be brave and curious to win the Quetzal Quest. Visit the Temple: click for links to Nahua mythology and culture. Guided tour. Prehispanic music.”
Upon arrival you receive the notice about a quest to complete. This quest is not just a simple find and click. There is an order to the clues and you must follow precisely what they ask. If it says sit, you must sit.
You cannot just cam around and find the Quetzal birds to pick up the feathers, it simply won’t work. The quest was designed to encourage visitors to explore and discover all the features of the island so your feet have to do the walking.
As you wander around the island you notice the attention to detail that has gone into creating this jungle paradise. The amount of wildlife on display is amazing. You will come face to face with everything from very tiny bugs and beautiful butterflies to larger beasts such as bears and carnivores.
From the calls of the many birds to the tremendous waterfalls. To the wetlands with resident alligator and over grown paths lined with ferns and palms. The landscaping immerses you deep within the tropical scenery.
I was fortunate to find the sim owner online at the time of my visit who was kind enough to give me a guided tour of the hidden parts of the island. He shared his love of Aztec history and culture. How he endeavours to create not just a beautiful place for people to visit but also a place which can educate those about the Aztec people. (An example of this is found within the temple where you can click on paintings of the many gods to gain more information via notecards and web links.)
My suggestions when visiting Aztec island.
* Take the short guided tour found at the base of the great temple.
* Pop over to the adjacent sim Blaise Rush and get on the GTS mini sub for a guided tour of the hidden underwater paradise of Aztec Island.
* Find a priest and maybe get sacrificed!
* Wander the paths, find the treasure and enjoy jungle life.
