One of the simplest ways to enjoy Second Life is to spend time wandering around a beautifully created sim. It costs you nothing to visit a sim which has been opened to the public, although I do believe it is always nice to leave a little token of appreciation in the tip pot (usually found at the landing point) because anyone who has rented land in Second Life knows these pieces of virtual real estate are anything but cheap! Currently a homestead sim is $6999L per week, so when these are shared it really is an act of real life generosity.
Second Life is always brimming with creativity and imagination which residents so often share freely. The opening of someone’s homestead sim certainly falls into this category. Picture it as someone inviting you into their home. A home which they have laid every brick, placed every pebble and planted every tree. With pictures hung the doors are flung opened for any guest to venture in and experience a tiny part of not only the beauty but of the creator. Entry is always an honour and you often leave with a handful of memories to cherish along with a deep appreciation of the many talents other residents hold.
Somehow I had let life get too busy to enjoy the simple pleasure of a wander about the grid so it has been a long time since I’ve managed to do a Travel 52 postcard. But this week I dusted off the travelling shoes and ventured out to experience some of the latest hidden delights on offer. One in particular caught my imagination, Evergreen Nook.
The peace and tranquility hits you from the moment you land. Sounds like an oxymoron right? But it is the only way to describe the intense feeling of calm you feel as things come into rezz. Trees, bushes, meandering pathways and an inlet with water that begs you to venture closer.
Evergreen Nook has been lovingly created by JenniferKatie Dunner and Owen Cann. Together they have built a place of serenity which invites and encourages you to take time out from the business of life and just simply explore. Whether you enjoy the feel of country grass against your ankles or soft sand between your toes, Evergreen Nook has it all.
I had the pleasure of getting to know the kindness of JenniferKatie a couple of months ago and whilst wandering around Evergreen Nook that same kind heart shone through in all the finishing touches. Everything has so carefully and thoughtfully been placed into position. There is grace and tenderness no matter where your eye rests.
However the one part of the sim which captured my heart completely was from the imagination of Owen. Nestled at the end of a long gravel path, a Stonehenge replica waits ever so patiently to welcome you into a land of deep thought and mystery.
After sitting among the ancient stones contemplating all life’s questions, I may not have received the answers on love, life and reasons for existence, but I did walk away with a smile, not only on my face but also in my heart.
Like many of the postcards before this one, you can never guarantee how long a sim will be there. So my advice to you all is Evergreen Nook is a must see gem. This sim is one you do not want to miss experiencing. So forget the to-do list, go find your sneakers and take some well deserved time-out today to let nature whisper its secrets in your ear too.
